Livonia, Michigan – General Oil Company was awarded the GM Environmental Excellence Award at the North American International Automobile Show in Detroit on January 11, 2007. GM Vice President of Environment and Energy, Beth Lowery presented the award accompanied by U.S. EPA Administrator, Stephen Johnson.  Beth Lowery stated, “Last year alone, General Oil processed over six million gallons of GM’s used oil and returned well over three quarters of a million gallons of recycled product. In addition to the environmental and energy benefits, this activity resulted in a savings for GM of over one and a half million dollars.”

Each year GM honors a supplier that supports GM’s environmental initiatives including ISO 14001 certification, the use of new technologies that improve the environmental performance of GM’s facilities or products, and membership in the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment.

General Oil Company has served GM for over thirty years by recycling used industrial oil from GM manufacturing plants into high quality lubricating and machining oils. According to General Oil Company President Tim Westerdale, “General Motor’s support for the continuous recycling of their lubricating and machining oil is an example of their commitment to the environment – not only in the products they make, but in how they make them.  The benefits of the GM Oil Recycling Program include reducing the risk of environmental contamination, decreasing GM’s carbon footprint, saving energy and lessening our reliance on foreign crude oil.”
